The Artists

Amy Brekke (owner)

Originally from the Midwest and now a lover of all things Charleston, Amy has called the Lowcountry home with her family for over 12 years.

She’s had a passion for art since she could hold a crayon — and especially loves working with acrylics. Alongside her art business, For the Love of Art, Amy has also served as a middle school art teacher, communications director at a local church, and instructor for the City of Charleston’s Bees Landing Recreation Center, where she leads children’s art camps and classes.

Amy holds a degree from Crown Bible College. Beyond her creative work, she enjoys writing, attending church, and spending time with her family.

Her favorite things to paint are trees, ocean scenes, and flowers. What brings her the most joy is watching first-time painters go from slightly intimidated to absolutely glowing with pride — grinning ear to ear as they admire their own finished masterpiece!

Karissa Brekke (left)

Karissa is passionate about all forms of art, especially digital illustration. In addition to taking digital drawing commissions, she works part-time while attending Charleston Southern University, where she’s majoring in Graphic Design.

She’s not only talented with digital media — she was also recognized at CSU for her outstanding acrylic painting of a white owl, among other impressive works in her growing portfolio.

With her fun-loving and patient personality, Karissa loves helping others discover the joy of painting. Whether she’s leading a paint party or working on her own creative projects, she brings warmth, creativity, and skill to everything she does. Her favorite subjects to paint are characters and animals — though she truly excels at them all.

Rachel King

A true Charlestonian, Rachel brings a vibrant blend of creativity, warmth, and experience to For the Love of Art. With a degree in Art and an extensive background in multicultural art, she’s especially gifted at painting people and pets — capturing both likeness and personality with ease.

Rachel works in watercolor, oil, and acrylic—Painting will always be her favorite medium. Her kind, down-to-earth personality and fun energy make her a joy to have at any paint party, and students love learning from her during one-on-one and duo art lessons.

We’re so blessed to have Rachel as part of our creative family, sharing her talent and love for art wherever she goes.
