Questions

Why don’t I see any in-studio events on the calendar?

12/23/20- We have made the difficult decision to postpone all in-studio events until the Coronavirus is better under control and does not pose a great risk to others in a social setting. After weighing all of the options and expenses it would take to employ social distancing and other measures to ensure everyone’s safety, we decided the risks didn’t outweigh the benefits. We are taking this opportunity to refresh our future in-studio experience while we currently offer classes both virtually via Zoom and at Palmetto Brewing Co and Dashi Restaurant. We will eventually be moving to a bigger and better location! Stay tuned. Thank you for understanding and thank you for your continued business!

Where is the pick-up location for Pick-up & Paint Kits?

12/23/20- Our Pick-Up & Paint Kits can now be picked up at our new convenient West Ashley location located at: 3510 Glenn McConnell Pkwy. Charleston, SC. 29414. We have a storage locker just inside the Extras Space Storage building to the left. Look for our logo!

  • Pick-Up times are: Wednesdays after 4pm and Thursdays after 11am. (The building itself is open from 6am-10pm so for example if you miss picking up Wednesday, it will still be there waiting for you;)

  • Paint Kits are NON-REFUNDABLE for obvious reasons. If you reschedule or your class is cancelled by the studio we will gladly supply you with any paint colors you would be missing for your rescheduled class if needed.

Orders can be made up to the hour pickup begins. If you need to make other arrangements, please call the studio at 843-974-4472.

What is your cancellation policy?

For all virtual and public in-person classes we have a 24 hour cancellation policy. If you need to cancel or reschedule, we are happy to do so with the required notice. If you need to cancel we can offer you a class credit to reschedule yourself at a later more convenient date.

✮ Important notes:
-If the minimum attendance has not been met for a class we reserve the right to reschedule or cancel the class. We will contact you via the given contact info asap if this does occur. A full refund will be offered in these instances if you do not wish to reschedule.

* All private parties either virtual or in person require a 5 day notice to cancel or reschedule. If notice is given any sooner the deposit becomes non-refundable. Thank you for your understanding.

Will you have Paint-your-Pet classes virtually?

Yes! At some point we will incorporate them on our virtual class calendar for locals only. You will be required to purchase a kit for the class as it will include a custom stenciled canvas.

Do I need experience to take your classes?

You do not need experience. We choose paintings that should be beginner friendly and we guide you step-by-step just the same as we would in-person. We hope you will taste and see the amazing benefits of enjoying the art of painting!

Are there age restrictions to your classes?

While there are no age restrictions per-say, some classes may not be suitable for younger children. We will be adding kid-friendly classes to our calendar and recommend ages 6 and up, but we leave that to the parent’s discretion as it relates to virtual classes.

What is your Virtual Class Etiquette?

  • Do not be late. Join at least 5 min early. If you are more than 15 min late you may not be let in and will not be refunded. Have your supplies and painting area all ready to go.

  • Be aware that you are on camera. Don’t multi-task, pick your nose or position the camera inappropriately. Keep distractions to a minimum. Choose a well lit space. Let us see your smiling face or your painting in progress;)

  • Mute your microphone. Unless you are speaking, please keep it on mute to respect others.

  • Stay on topic. Keep conversations positive and respectful. We are there to have fun with art.

  • Don’t abuse the chat box. Feel free to type your questions and we will do our best to answer them live, but please don’t overuse or misuse that benefit. Thank you!

What supplies do you recommend for virtual classes if I am buying my own?

We recommend these art supplies as a staple in your paint tool kit:

  • Quality acrylic paints in these colors (in order of importance): White, Mars Black, Bright Red, Chrome Yellow, Phthalo Blue and Burnt Umber. In addition you could add: Phthalo Green, Green Oxide, Colbalt Blue, Primary Magenta, Phthalo Red, Deep Yellow, Burnt Sienna, Raw Sienna, Violet, Ultramarine Blue, Chrome Orange, Turquoise, Gold, Raw Umber, Venetian Red. (We use Dick Blick brand acrylic paints at our studio.)

  • Brushes: Large Flat (1”), Medium Flat (1/2”) and Small Flat (1/4”) + Medium Round, Small Round and Smaller Round Detail brushes (size 6 or smaller). You could also add a filbert and fan brush. We use multiple brands at the studio. Usually a short wooden handle with synthetic bristles. Our favorite brand is Simply Simmons.

  • Canvases. We like the wood framed, pre-gessoed ones from Michaels in a step 1. They are good quality and good price. We use primarily 11x14 and 16x20 but they come in various sizes.

  • You’ll want to have a rinse cup (glass mason jar or other heavy bodied cup), palette or mixing plate, rag for spills or wiping your hands or paper towels, and good lighting.

  • Easel. Either a wood or metal table top easel (our favorite) or an A-frame wood easel is nice too. Michaels has some good quality ones. Dick Blick as good black metal tabletop easels which is where we got ours for the studio.

  • We also recommend having some different colored chalk, transfer paper, a pencil, ruler, circle foam pouncer in different sizes, a paint smock to cover your clothes, a cheap hair dryer for speeding dry times between steps.

  • And finally the Masters Brush Cleaner is really amazing. We recommend you don’t let your brushes dry with paint on them, or let them sit in the water too long. Wash them with a light dish detergent and rinse well and lay flat to dry. This cleaner will restore them well if they become frayed or loaded with paint that makes them stiff. You can pick it up on Amazon.
